St John’s Church welcomes visitors
St John’s Church is located in the centre of town on the corner of York Street and Peels Place. The gardens provide an oasis of peace in a busy city and the Church is a haven for reflection, prayer, private devotion and inspiration.
There are a variety of services on offer. Every weekday morning at 8.00am we begin with morning prayers. Every Sunday we gather as a community at 8.00am and 9.30am and offer Eucharist services with Holy Communion. During the week and the liturgical year, we have many other special services; some regular and some occasional.
New to Albany and looking for a Church?
If you are new to Albany, it can be daunting to look for a new place of worship. Please feel very welcome to attend services and any of our community activities. All are welcome at the Lord’s table. Baptised, communicant members of all Christian denominations are very welcome to receive Holy Communion and any person is welcome to come forward to receive a blessing. If you are unable to come to the altar rail and wish to receive the Sacrament in your pew, please speak to a steward.
Open for Visitors
The Church is open for visitors on Fridays from 11.00am to 2.00pm. We also open on days when cruise ships are in town whenever possible. Our friendly Church Watch team will happily guide you through our beautiful Church. All welcome.
Using the Church Halls
The Church halls are available for bookings. The old hall on York Street was opened in October 1889 and has been used for Sunday school, an infants school and for both Church and Albany community social functions ever since. The Dorothy Wood Hall at the rear of the old hall was added in 1992.
Contact the Church Office to make a booking.
Our office hours are Mon to Thu 9.00am to 12.00pm and Fri 9.00am to 5.00pm.
